Slovakia adopts constitutional right to cash payments
In June 2023, the Slovak Parliament approved a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to use cash for purchasing goods and services. Supported by 111 MPs, this move aims to protect physical payments against increasing digitalization and potential future restrictions, such as the digital euro. Article 39a (1) Issuance of cash as legal tender is guaranteed.
