The US Supreme Court is set to hear the case of Marlean A. Ames, a straight woman who claims she was denied a promotion and later demoted because of her sexual orientation, in what has been dubbed a “reverse discrimination” dispute. The case, Ames v. Ohio Department of Youth Services (No. 23-1039), could clarify the evidentiary standards that apply when a member of a majority group alleges discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended by the Civil Rights Act of 1991 and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009.
